Panaramic shot copy.jpg

Night Out Against Crime 2007 is in the history books! People lined up early with their kids to get free backpacks and school supplies. Attendence grew to 260 people during the day with 175 people sticking around for the brass band at 8 PM. True, it was hot, but it was also alot of fun.

For those of you who couldn't make it, here are some of the highlights of what you missed.

ZONING OVERLAY, FRERET STREET, AND YOU!

Zoning Overlay, Freret Street, and You!

The Freret Business and Property Owner’s Association is beginning the process of getting an “Arts and Culture Overlay” added to the zoning for the properties fronting Freret Street between Jefferson and Napoleon. Their primary purpose in getting the overlay is to allow entertainment establishments (such as La Nuit comedy club and possibly Movie Pictures theater) and artist studios to locate on to Freret Street, uses which are currently excluded from the existing B-1A zoning.

Property Taxes

**This is from an email from Stacy Head's office**

Many people in District B are becoming alarmed that their property tax assessments increased.  The fear seems to be that taxes will be uniformly higher with this reassessment.  I hope to allay those fears.

Calling All People Who Use Computers in Their Work or Play

The Louisiana Technology Council has begun a survey of technical skills of the people of the Greater New Orleans Area. The purpose of this survey is to demonstrate to the outside world that Southeastern Louisiana does actually have folks that know what the "Shift" key is for. It takes about 10 minutes and I would urge everyone to take it. www.laitcensus.com
